It must have been one of the coldest NOOD weekends ever. Friday and Saturday saw dense fog warnings from NOAA and air temperatures in the mid to lower 50s. After three races on Friday and Saturday, then two races on Sunday; results are as follows.

The procedure will be a bit different than in years past. J Boats MidWest will pay for half your ticket as a thank you for volunteering at our booth. You can pick up and pay your balance at the Exhibitor's Entrance located on the East (lake side) end of the hall. It is on the second floor all the way around the back of the show.

Donald Wilson and the crew of Convexity win the Offshore Season Championship

The results are in on the season long Offshore Championship. The 2010 Offshore Series consisted of races from the NOOD, Verve and North American Championship. Convexity took top honors in 2010.

Donald Wilson and Convextiy win 2010 North American Championship

After completing 8 races, over 4 days of racing in a wide range of conditions; Donald Wilson and the crew of Convexity took top honors in the international fleet of 20 J105's with a score of 18.

David Wagner and his crew on Gigi took second place with a score of 26.

James Rathburn and the crew of Hey Jude finished in third place with a total of 35.

Carter Williams and the crew of Creative Destruction finished in fourth with a tally of 60.

Fleet 5 President, Blane Shea, and his crew on Striking rounded out the podium with a score of 67.

Fleet 5 congratulates all the participants in making an excellent regatta weekend.

North American Championship - Declaration Update

There has been some confusion regarding declarations for the 2010 North American Championship.

You must register and pay on Yachtscoring, once that is complete you must make all declarations on the J105 National Website. It will also update automatically so you may find out where your boat is in the declaration process.

If you declared your crew on Yachscoring's system you will have to also enter the information on the J105 National Website. The data will not transfer.

These five (5) boats must be weighed.

The weighing will be done on Monday September 13th. 10:00am until finished. Crowley's will reserve ample dock for each boat to have space to unload gear, be inspected and move under the crane. I expect the entire process to take less than two (2) hours. Once weighed and reloaded boats may shove off immediately.

A weather delay will push the inspection and weigh to Tuesday September 14th. Same time and parameters.

For those interested the numbers were chosen by 5 non-sailors via email with no knowledge of which race the lottery is for. Once the numbers were gathered the registrants were sorted by sail number and the corresponding line number was matched to the numbers picked by the emailed number providers. The sorting decision was made after the numbers were picked. The sort options were sail number ascending, boat name descending, owner last name ascending, phone number descending. A sixth person was emailed to choose the sort format.

Sealark wins 2010 Verve Cup Overall !

Clark Pellet and his crew on Sealark beat 16 competitors in the 2010 Chicago Yacht Club Verve Cup. Clark was not only first in fleet but also overall Verve Cup Winner . The fleet saw 8 races over 3 days of all conditions. The second and third place boats were Latis and Lane 4 . The 2nd through 6th place boats were separated by only 5 points. Great racing Fleet 5 !

Welcome to the new Fleet 5 Chicago website

As you can notice there are a few changes on the website. Our goal is to make fleet information easier to access while adding ease of administration.

We have created a completely new web presence for the fleet which includes many new features.

1. All fleet officers have posting privileges. This allows each member of the committee to post their own pertinent information for easy dissemination. Any emailed information can easily be posted here to provide an informational backup. You can click on any tag to filter information to only measurer....or offshore series information....etc.

2. The keys can be passed easily. Whomever takes ownership next gets the password and email information to all items with one easy to use interface. This makes transitions easy.

3. Fleet Picassa and youtube albums. We have many photographers in the fleet. We can add any photos you like to our web album. Please email any photos to fleet5chicago@gmail.com and they will be posted.

4. RSS.....if any of you use RSS feeds....click on the atom subscription for instant updates to your desktop.

5. Scoring We are working on building the scoring system and hope to have it running soon.

Verve Cup Weigh In

From the fleet measurer:

Weigh in process will be the same as usual. Gyt Petkus will weigh sailors on Wednesday night on E Dock in DuSable Harbor. Keith Krause will handle the weigh process on Thursday at CYC on the patio from 4pm - Skippers Meeting and again on Friday morning on E Dock in Dusable from 730am - 8am.

Saturday weigh in will be by request to Keith.
